187 Pro Knee Pads
Knee pads made for occassional falls in the park are not designed for the all-the-time falling nature of derby. Pads made for vert skateboarding, etc. will best protect your knees from repeated impact. Bursitis sucks!
Dual density interior foam. Seamless hinge for maximum flexibility and comfort. Open back design for excellent fit and easy on and off. Constructed of ultra high strength ballistic nylon. Double stitching for duability. Super thick replaceable caps.
In layman's terms, there is a big area inside the pad where your knee fits, which helps keep it from ever having to take the impact. Then on top of that there is a bunch of padding THEN the hard cap (which I have seen come off a couple times but I have never seen break). The cap is also slick, which helps you slide when you fall and so disburses the impact so it doesn't just shoot through your body. Science and stuff.
They might seem bulky at first but almost every gets used to that and are thankful for the protection. They last a long time if you can stand the funk. Romo wears a size Medium and had the same pair for 2 years before finally getting new ones.
